What do you think of when you hear the word “mompreneur?”

Some may envision a woman managing Motherhood and a business, some may think of a small at home business, and others may envision a woman who has a hobby she enjoys while being a stay at home Mom.

Some like the term, as they feel it resonates with them, and merged the two full time jobs into one title. While others don’t see the need to differentiate entrepreneurship, and some feel in a way belittles female entrepreneurs, or categorizes them as less committed to their business.

Any entrepreneur can tell you that starting a business and scaling it, is no easy feat, and neither is Motherhood, and both combined is a delicate juggling gig.

So why has this term been trending and why are women jumping into business, now more than ever, whether it’s full time or a side hustle. Currently there is a surge of female founders, and I beleive it will only rise from here on out. According to Inc.com, only two women are on the top 25 list of entrepreneurs, Oprah Winfrey and Vera Wang. Unfortunately there is a huge disparity of male to females in the business world.

So why the surge of female founders? The flexibility of your working hours, I believe is the primary reason many women venture into this territory, it gives you that ability to work from home, some part or most of the day, or to be there for the kids when you need to, compared to the rigid 9 – 5 schedule.

Also the empowerment of women to pursue their dreams, and venture into male dominated territories, has also led to more women in business.

Also it has never been easier to start a business, with the variety of user friendly platforms to start a business online, as well as the vast knowledge and research available to us online, which is simply a click away.

Women in Business Who I admire:

• Sudduf Wynne (Mom to triplets, yes you read that right, mashAllah, and Founder of the Ramadan Market, which has now grown into the Muslim Market, as well as the Founder of MEA (Muslim Entrepreneur Association.)
• Hanan Tehaili (New Mom, to Liam, with a full time career and is a total boss as a content creator and influencer, all while doing it in impeccable style.)
• Sebinah Hussein (A new Mom, and expecting a new bundle of joy soon, with a full time career as a lawyer and another total boss as a content creator and influencer. Her sweet and honest demeanor is a breath of fresh air in an industry with endless filters.
