Fun at Arab Fashion Week
For the very first time, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the one and only Arab Fashion Council hosted Arab Fashion Week, at the gorgeous Ritz Carlton.
There were two tents, one for the runway, and a second for Harvey Nichols pop up store, showcasing exclusive runway collections, workshops and tutorials.
Many talented designers showcased their collections on the runway, including Jean Paul Gaultier, Mua Mua, Asory House, Naja Saade, Aiisha Ramada, Swaf, Basil Soda, and Yulia Yanina.
Spotted trends on and off the runway were, jumpsuits, light elegant flowing gowns, beautifully styled abaya’s, pleats, gathers, flares, lace, sequence, gems, a bit of vintage, and belted waists.
Although some were disappointed with the cancellation due to the weather (totally out of their control) and online ticket booking had stopped working, I’d say it went very well, especially considering it’s the first event of its kind in Saudi Arabia. With all firsts, there will be opportunities to improve, and I’m sure it will be even more better each time.
I just wish the models were more diverse, as all were light skinned, and the majority of European descent.
