The Rise of Modest Fashion
A long time coming, but is it finally here to stay?
Some say it’s just a trend, but I can tell you as someone who is passionate on the subject and myself as a modest woman, alongside so many other’s worldwide, I believe it is here to stay and will only grow stronger with the increasing demand for quality modest apparel at varying price points.
There is absolutely no doubt, that modest fashion has been trending on the runways for mainstream designers. We have seen the rise of hijabi models, such as Ikram Abdi, and Halima Aden. This past year Halima walked for Sherry Hill at New York Fashion Week, and Max Mara at Milan Fashion Week. Noor Tagouri also walked for Rebecca Minkoff at New York Fashion Week.

The luxury designer Dolce & Gabbana launched their modest hijab and abaya collection, as seen above.
Mayada, recently debuted their Roots Collection at Dubai Modest Fashion Week and launched their affordable luxury modest women’s line online.
The Modist also sells the modest pieces of luxury high end designer brands, in addition to their own brand Layeur online.
We have also seen major brands such as Nike release the Pro Hijab, H&M launched their modest capsule collection in 2018. There are so many other brands such as Michael Kors scarves, and Marc Jacobs with models strutting the runways donned with hijab.
Although many mainstream brands have touched upon modest fashion, many doubt their intentions, for purely monetary gain, or just to cross off the diversity card. Some brands have done it with success, while others with backlash, for not understanding the needs of the customers, and instead design “cultural” modest pieces.
What do you want to see from the modest fashion movement? Do you think it’s here to stay, or a fashion fad?
